Call for Expressions of Interest: Early Career Academic Representative

The Executive Committee of ASMCF invites expressions of interest from enthusiastic and committed Early Career Academics (ECAs) to serve as the Early Career Academic Representative on our Executive Committee.

This new role reflects the Association’s commitment to providing dedicated support for ECAs. It is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the Association, ensure that the perspectives and needs of early career researchers are represented within decision-making processes and help strengthen support for the next generation of scholars in the field.

About the Role

The Early Career Academic Representative serves as a member of the Executive Committee and acts as a key link between the Association and its early career membership. The postholder will advocate for the interests of ECAs, contribute to the development of activities and resources, and support initiatives that enhance engagement, networking and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Represent the views, interests and concerns of early career academics within Executive Committee discussions and decision-making.
  • Attend and actively contribute to Executive Committee meetings.
  • Act as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the Association’s early career membership.
  • Support the development and promotion of initiatives aimed at early career researchers, including mentoring, networking, funding and professional development activities.
  • Contribute to conference planning and events with a particular focus on ECA engagement.
  • Assist in the dissemination of information and opportunities relevant to early career members through our communication channels.
  • Encourage participation of ECAs in Association activities, committees and the annual conference.
  • Identify emerging issues affecting early career academics and bring these to the attention of the Executive Committee.
  • Contribute to the Association’s commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and collegiality.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

  • Be a member of ASMCF (or willing to become a member upon appointment).
  • Be an early career academic or researcher, typically defined as being within eight years of completing a doctorate or at a comparable career stage.
  • Demonstrate an interest in supporting and representing the early career academic community.
  • Be willing to commit time to committee meetings and associated activities throughout the term of office.

Term of Appointment

The appointment will be for a term of two years.

    • Their interest in the role;
    • Relevant experience and skills;
    • Ideas for supporting and engaging early career members of the Association.
  2. A short academic CV (maximum two pages).
