For Postgraduates and Early Career Researchers
As members of the Association, postgraduate researchers are entitled to access a wide range of benefits and opportunities. These include dedicated financial support, career guidance, and the chance to share your research as part of the annual Conference or Postgraduate Study Day.
A variety of funding sources are available to postgraduate members, including the Peter Morris Memorial Postgraduate Travel Prize, awarded annually to support a postgraduate student with overseas research. Members of the Association can also apply to the Initiative Fund for help defraying the costs of organising research events.
Postgraduate members can participate in the annual ASMCF conference at a discounted rate, with additional support for travel costs. Traditionally, the programme has included a dedicated postgraduate session; in recent years, this has been devoted to advice on how to write book or funding proposals and applying to postdoctoral positions. The Association also runs an annual Postgraduate Essay Prize for papers presented by PGRs at the conference; the prize consists of a £100 cheque and an invitation to submit the paper to Modern & Contemporary France, the Association’s Journal.
