Douglas Johnson Memorial Lecture 2020

The Douglas Johnson Memorial Lecture for 2020, organised in conjunction with the Society for the Study of French History (SSFH), will take place on Monday 13 January 2020. Professor Debra Kelly (Westminster, UK) will deliver the lecture entitled ‘Dining Out with the Free French in Wartime London’ at the Institut Français, London. To book a free ticket to the event please go to the Institut webpage.

Prof Kelly’s talk will discuss how familiar wartime tales of culinary privations mask other stories of plenty and paradox, not least when we sit down at the table with the Free French in wartime London.

Professor Douglas Johnson, in whose memory this annual lecture is held, served as President of both the ASMCF and the SSFH. A distinguished historian of modern France, Prof Johnson passed away in 2005.
